Social-meaning is the meaning our life gives (or we hope it gives) to others. For example, I mean much to my family.

Self- and Social-meaning are two sides of the same coin. It is useful to separate them, however, because they often differ and the differences are informative (although at other times, we will need to bring them together).

For example, my family means much to me; but I do not mean much to them (or indeed the reverse).
